Adam Smasher

Adam Smasher is Arasaka’s most feared enforcer, a full-body conversion cyborg with barely any flesh left on him. Born in New York, he led a street gang, spent six years in the Marines before being discharged for insubordination, then worked as a merc who took the ugliest jobs available. In 2015 a job for Arasaka ended with rocket-propelled grenades tearing his body apart, and the corporation offered him a deal: a fully cybernetic body in exchange for years of service. He accepted without regret, convinced that flesh is weak and bound to be replaced.

Smasher fought for Arasaka in the Fourth Corporate War, and in 2023 he killed Johnny Silverhand during the assault on Arasaka Tower, after which Arasaka digitized Johnny’s mind with the Soulkiller program. He also appears in the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, set in 2076. By 2077 he is Yorinobu Arasaka’s bodyguard and handles the corporation’s dirtiest cleanup work, with a reputation for tying up every loose end.

V first runs into him at Konpeki Plaza, where he escorts Yorinobu while V and Jackie hide in the suite, then tries to stop them as they flee. He remains the man Johnny most wants to settle scores with, and once he becomes Arasaka’s head of security, any plan against the corporation has to account for him. Smasher has been part of the Cyberpunk universe since the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop game.
