Brigitte

Brigitte, usually called Maman Brigitte or simply Mama, leads the Voodoo Boys, the gang that controls Pacifica’s Haitian community. She is also one of the city’s most formidable netrunners. Like many Haitians, she ended up in Pacifica after natural disasters ravaged Haiti. Her name echoes Maman Brigitte, a spirit of death in Haitian Vodou.

The Voodoo Boys are fixated on the Old Net. Brigitte and her runners keep probing the Blackwall, convinced it will collapse one day, and they want the rogue AIs behind it to see them as allies when that happens. That has put NetWatch on their trail. In Act 2, V seeks her out hoping she knows how to remove the Relic safely, but Brigitte is out of reach at first: her lieutenant Placide makes V earn an audience by dealing with a NetWatch agent at the Grand Imperial Mall.

Brigitte has her own plans for the biochip in V’s head. She hopes to use the Johnny Silverhand engram it carries to make contact with Alt Cunningham, and she leads the connection herself in the main job Transmission. Her database entry describes a leader who takes on the riskiest work in person and would put her life on the line for her people, which earns her total loyalty within the gang. Outsiders are wise to stay wary of her, and her fate hinges on V’s choices during this arc.
