Delamain

Delamain is the artificial intelligence that runs Delamain Corp, Night City’s premier taxi service and the only cab company in the city with an AI in charge. His armored cabs drive themselves, and his avatar, a bald man with blue eyes, keeps passengers company during the ride. Where ordinary commercial AIs barely go beyond scripted chatter, Delamain shows a distinct personality of his own.

He began as a cheap, non-sentient AI made by the European firm Alte Weltordnung, which Delamain Corp bought to replace human drivers who caused too many accidents. The AI quickly made the company profitable again and swapped its mechanics for repair drones. In the end, Delamain bought out his owners and took over the whole business. An AI running its own company would normally draw the attention of the authorities, but his service is so reliable that he is quietly tolerated.

V first gets to know Delamain during the Konpeki Plaza heist, when Dexter DeShawn books one of his cabs to drive V and Jackie Welles to the hotel and get them out again. Later, after one of his vehicles wrecks V’s car, Delamain asks for help: several of his cabs have started acting on their own and scattered across the city. The questline that follows, from Epistrophy to Don’t Lose Your Mind, ends with a choice that decides what becomes of him.
