Biography

Nix is a netrunner based at the Afterlife, the mercs’ bar in Little China, Watson, and one of Rogue’s most trusted runners. People bring him the shady, dangerous jobs that other netrunners turn down whatever the fee. His methods are careful rather than flashy. Nix has spent years studying the scraps of knowledge left behind by the legendary runner Rache Bartmoss, and he has a reputation as an expert in antique, pre-DataKrash hardware.

Before joining Rogue’s circle, Nix worked as a corpo at Arasaka. He rarely talks about that period, though certain lifepath dialogue lets V learn a little more. In Act 2 he contacts V with the side job Spellbound: he wants V to buy the Book of Spells, a Zetatech tablet that predates the DataKrash, from a netrunner called R3n0, acting on his behalf in case the exchange goes wrong. A V with enough Intelligence can point out that the item is worth far more than he is paying and squeeze a bonus out of him.

The follow-up job, KOLD MIRAGE, takes V to a landfill in the Badlands and an unexpected find: an old cyberdeck for Nix to decrypt. Hidden malware turns against him partway through the work, and V has to act fast to keep him alive. If Nix makes it through both jobs, V can call on him again for help in Phantom Liberty.
